PM-KISAN Yojana – Direct Income Support for Farmers

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana is a flagship scheme managed by the National Commission for Agriculture and Farmers Development (NCAFD), aimed at providing direct financial assistance to farmers across India. Launched by the Government of India, this initiative ensures economic stability for small and marginal farmers by offering them direct income support to meet their agricultural and personal needs.
Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 per year in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each, directly credited to their bank accounts. This financial aid helps farmers purchase seeds, fertilizers, farm equipment, and other essential inputs, reducing their dependency on loans and ensuring smoother agricultural operations. The scheme covers all landholding farmers, ensuring that even small and marginal farmers benefit from direct government support.
To ensure transparency and efficiency, the scheme is fully digitalized, with an online registration and verification system to prevent fraud and duplication. Farmers can register through the PM-KISAN portal or mobile app, making it easier for them to track their payments and eligibility. Aadhaar linkage ensures that funds reach the right beneficiaries without delays or middlemen interference.
NCAFD plays a crucial role in monitoring and implementing PM-KISAN effectively across states, coordinating with local agricultural departments and financial institutions. The scheme is also linked with other government programs like PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) for irrigation and PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for crop insurance, providing comprehensive support to farmers.
By offering financial stability, reducing rural distress, and encouraging investment in agriculture, PM-KISAN is a transformative initiative that strengthens the backbone of India’s farming community and contributes to the goal of doubling farmers’ income and ensuring sustainable agriculture.
